In this lesson we will study American English vocabulary compliments of the VOA Wordbook, a dictionary of over 1,500 highly-used words. Please focus and do your best so that you can learn and improve your vocabulary, which will help your comprehension and communication skills. Part 1 Directions: Listen to the audio and read along the vocabulary words and definitions 2-3 times. If needed, use the translation feature to translate the vocabulary words and definitions in your primary language.

- improve – to make better; to become better
- in – inside; held by; contained by; surrounded by; during
- incident – an event or something that happens
- incite – to urge or cause an action or emotion, usually something bad or violent
- include – to have; to make a part of
- increase – to make more in size or amount
- independent – not influenced by or controlled by another or others; free; separate
- individual –one person
- industry – any business that produces goods or provides services; the work and related activity in factories and offices; all organizations involved in manufacturing
- infect – to make sick with something that causes disease
- inflation – a continuing rise in prices while the value of money goes down
- influence – to have an effect on someone or something; to cause change
- inform – to tell; to give knowledge to
- information – knowledge; facts
- inject – to force a fluid into, such as putting medicine or drugs into the body through the skin
- injure – to cause harm or damage to a person or animal
- innocent – not guilty of a crime; not responsible for a bad action
- insane – mentally sick
- insect – a very small creature, usually with many legs and sometimes with wings
- inspect – to look at something carefully; to examine, especially by an expert
- instead – in the place of; taking the place of
- instrument – a tool or device designed to do something or to make something
- insult – to say something or to do something that makes another person angry or dishonored
- intelligence – the ability to think or learn; information gathered by spying
- intelligent – quick to understand or learn
- intense – very strong; extremely serious
- interest – what is important to someone (“He acted to protect his interests.” “She had a great interest in painting.”); a share in owning a business; money paid for the use of money borrowed
- interfere – to get in the way of; to work against; to take part in the activities of others, especially when not asked to do so
- international – of or about more than one nation or many nations; of the whole world

VOA Vocabulary lesson 21.
In the above video, I learned the following words.
1) Incite: To encourage someone to do or feel something unpleasant or violent.
2) Inflation: A general increase in prices.
3) Insane: Mentally ill. crazy.
4) Intense: Of extreme force, degree or strength.
Here are some example sentences for each word.
Insite: The politician was accused of inciting violence during his speech.
Inflation: The inflation rate has been gradually increasing over the past year.
Insane: The man was declared insane after he was caught talking to himself on the street.
Intense: The intense heat of the sun made me difficult to stay outside for long.
